Orly Nite Owl

Brown brown brown! An underrated colour, methinks. A nice tan or deep brown can be so lovely. Case in point: Orly Nite Owl.

Orly Nite Owl: Light brown with silver shimmer. It's so cute.

Purple Glitter Ombre

A while ago, my friend had a birthday party. She kindly requested that I have glitter on my nails, since it was her birthday and she wanted it. OBVIOUSLY I would accept that request because glitter and parties go together like Starks and honour (sorry. Mind is still in Game of Thrones mode!). She didn't tell me what colour family she wanted, so a quick text to my boyfriend later ("Name a colour." "Purple?" "Done." "???") and purple glitter was decided. I wanted to see if I had enough purple glitters to do an ombre effect.

I think so...?

Check it:

Thumb: Sinful Colors I Miss You
Index: Orly Ultraviolet
Middle: Butter London Shambolic
Ring: Nails Inc Bloomsbury Square
Pinkie: OPI Designer Series Temptation

Some notes about the colours: I Miss You is quite sheer so that might be 3-4 coats on my thumb and I still didn't think it was enough!
Ultraviolet is a great colour, but the glitter is sparse so coverage is an issue, as well.
I was a little disappointed with Shambolic. Pictures always show it as a lot darker than it is, so I was hoping for a darker purple. :(
Bloomsbury Square is very pretty, but are top coat like a ravenous hog beast.
OPI Temptation is beautiful, but so gritty. Previous Designer Series colours have been really smooth, so this grittiness took me by surprise.

PURPLE!

Orly Lucky Duck

Oh man, I love a good green. And let me tell you, Lucky Duck is one good green. This is a fantastic shade of jade. Look!

(Completely unrelated: I saw Blue Rodeo yesterday. THEY WERE AMAZING. Canadians: go see them! Canadians not of a certain age so you have no idea who I am talking about: Go see them anyway! They're such excellent musicians.)

Ahem. Back to the nail polish...

Orly Lucky Duck: I got tons of compliments on this colour. This is exactly what jade should be!

Rainbow Nails!!

I have a secret (it's not a secret): I love colour waaaay too much. True fact: My space looks like a rainbow threw up all over it. So I decided to try doing a rainbow across my nails because rainbows are full of colour and we've established I love colour and I'm am a little bit crazy and wooo! Colour!

Ahem.

Check 'em out, 'kay?

Also, I stuck some glitter on the colours as well because that's how I roll.

Also also, check out some of the new Nicole by OPI Selena Gomez polishes! Some colours and glitters are hiding in there :)

Left Hand:

Pinkie: Julep Kelly, Nicole by OPI Inner Sparkle (from the Selena Gomez Collection)
Ring: China Glaze Wicked Style, Sephora by OPI What's Your Poison
Middle: OPI Kennebunk Port, OPI Gettin' Miss Piggy with It

Thumb: Nicole by OPI Hit the Lights, Nicole by OPI Kissed at Midnight (both from the Selena Gomez Collection)

 Right Hand:

Orly Paint on Electron

My first magnetic polish! How exciting!

So today we have Orly Paint on Electron form their Magnetic Collection. Did I ever tell you that I love Orly's giant bottles? Really! 18 mL (0.6 fl. oz). That's GIANT. So much polish. I really appreciate their generosity.

ANYHOO, back to this polish.

I love the idea of magnetics. I do, really I do. But I find it very hard in practice. I pretty much touched al my nails with the magnet. But maybe its not too obvious? Maybe? The formula is nice and the 'base' colour is a lovely gun-metal grey shimmer which is cool by itself. The starburst magnet (I think form LCN - its not branded so I'm not sure) does add a little something-something.

I need practice! But I do like it. Maybe I'll pick up some of the Sally Hansen magnetics...

Cheers!

Orly Skinny Dip and OPI Divine Swine

Morning (er, Afternoon!)

Summer summer summer! Time for neons! A nice blue neon, like this Orly Skinny Dip, part of their 2012 summer collection "Feel the Vibe." And I have felt the vibe! It felt funny. But resulted in an excellent bright blue neon!

Skinny Dip - this is two coats, and could have used another as you can see by the bald spots :( Otherwise, it is excellent consistency. This dries in the typical neon fashion: rubbery matte.

Did I ever tell you how much I love glitter gradients? BECAUSE I LOVE GLITTER GRADIENTS. They are a cinch for me to do (eventually I'll get a feel for the other kind for regular polish and a makeup sponge) so I tend to do them a lot when I need a little something-something for my mani.

Enter: OPI Divine Swine from their Muppet collection (which is full of happy glitters!). I did a 'reverse' gradient, from the nail bed rather than the tip. I'm a rebel, dontcha know.

Wheeeee! I loved how this turned out. Makes me happy :)

What combos make you happy?

Orly Galaxy Girl

I started a job this week, one in a traditionally stodgy environment. I tried to do a basic pink, really! I applied A England's Iseult, a pretty soft pink with a delicious shimmer. Took it off before it even dried. I cannot be contained! I asked my nephew what colour should go with, and he responded "Purple and green." How...? Children are insane funny creatures. But I sure showed him! I did use purple and green!

Enter: Orly Galaxy Girl from Cosmic FX. Deep sheer grape base but with.. wait for it... mother-kissing green sparkles! How awesome is that? It is pretty sheer, so I used three coats. And started my job in STYLE.

I really, really like this. It's "weird" in the best sense of the word: different, eye-catching, unsuspected, gorgeous!
