China Glaze Glitz N Pieces Part Deux

I was in Montreal this week and, seriously,

Seriously. May I never attempt to go somewhere in Canada during winter, ever again. Although eating at Au Pied du Cochon was totally worth it.

Moving on, I have the second half of the intriguing China Glaze Glitz N Pieces collection.

China Glaze Bling it On over Nubar Vaso. Blue blue blue! The blue is a nice darker shade. You do have to be careful with these colours, as the glitters tend to go over the nail tip (and cause mucho scratchiness).

China Glaze Grafitti Glitter over Misa The Great Green Whatsit. Green green green! I am very excited that Pantone named Emerald as the colour of the year, since greens are pretty much the best.

I love these glitters!!

China Glaze Blitz N Pieces and Razzle Me Dazzle Me

Glitter glitter glitter glitter! China Glaze's new collection Glitz N Pieces is a delightful line of top coat glitters (although they are quite dense enough to be worn on their own). I got four from the collection, and I have two to show to to you today:

China Glaze Blitz N Pieces over China Glaze Creative Fantasy (from their Cirque de Soleil collection). Dark silver multi-sized glitter and black mutlti-sized and bar glitter. Woohoo! Sparkly! I love the layer effect. The formula is super-dense. You don't need a lot to make a layer. I think I might try wearing these by themselves, layered to full opacity. I have the distinct feeling it would look very cool.

China Glaze Razzle Me Dazzle Me over Essie Lady Like. I really like this one. Dusty pink glitter. I love dusty pinks. So I layered it over a dusty pink! Again, I want to wear this colour by itself. The glitter is so dense.

Overall, I really like this collection. The glitters are fun and dense. Next week I'll show the other two colours I got.

**Disclosure: These colours were provided by NailPolishCanada.

OPI Oz The Great and Powerful Press Release

I just got a press release about the new collection OPI is releasing about the new movie about Oz: Oz the Great and Powerful.

Now, what comes to mind when you think about Oz? Ruby slippers? Emerald Cities? Yellow-brick roads? Glinda Pink? Over the rainbow?

Yeah, this doesn't have any of that. OPI is saying it is their Soft Shade 2013 collection. Which I guess, Spring means pastels, but seriously? You have an opportunity for vibrant, deep tones and ridiculous glitters and you give me pastels? This makes me sad. I realize this is a good marketing opportunity for OPI and the movie, but seriously?? I know the Ruby Slipper colour has been done to death, but the movie is a prequel. And it looks lush and vibrant and crazy-saturated. They could have done colours that worked for the feeling of the movie, not just spring pastels.

Harrumph. Rant over.

I'll reserve final judgement for when I see them, but I'll tell you: I'm mighty biased.

Anyhoodle, here are the colours they're releasing (with a new Liquid Sands colour, so I am intrigued by that)

From the Press release:

OPI announces the launch of six limited edition nail lacquers and a new Liquid Sand™ shade, inspired by Disney’s Oz The Great and Powerful. With an all-star cast that includes James Franco and Michelle Williams, this highly-anticipated film opens in theaters on March 8, 2013.

“OPI is very excited to take this fantastical journey with Disney,” explains Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. “Inspired by the magic of Oz The Great and Powerful, this SoftShades collection captures the whimsy seen in the film, from glittery shades packed with white, gold and silvery iridescent confetti – Lights of Emerald City, When Monkeys Fly! and Which is Witch? – to soft neutrals in white, beige and pink – Don’t Burst My Bubble, Glints of Glinda and I Theodora You.

“The new Liquid Sand nail lacquer – What Wizardry is This? – features OPI’s groundbreaking technology for a textured, matte finish infused with reflective sparkle,” adds Weiss-Fischmann. “This rich taupe hue was designed for James Franco’s character, the great Wizard of Oz, and is sure to make a bold statement this spring.”

With a mix of soft crème and warm glitter shades, the line is ideal for layering to create rich, complex looks. In addition to the Liquid Sand nail lacquer in What Wizardry is This?, the promotion includes:

Lights of Emerald City

White confetti adds city girl flair and style to nails.

Don’t Burst My Bubble
Don’t wake me...I’m dreaming about puffy clouds of white.

When Monkeys Fly!

I’m simply bananas for this gold confetti.

Glints of Glinda

Only a good witch could turn beige from meek to chic.

Which is Witch?

Is this silver glitter with iridescent sparkle or the other way around?

 I Theodora You

This adorable, sheer pink is bewitching on you.

What Wizardry is This?

This rich taupe hue was designed for James Franco’s character, the great Wizard of Oz

Anyhoodle, here are the colours they're releasing (with a new Liquid Sands colour, so I am intrigued by that) I'm most intrigued by Which is Witch?, What Wizadry is This? and When Monkeys Fly. Lights of Emerald City reminds me of Pirouette My Whistle from the NYC Ballet collection, but I'll have to see real bottles to make sure. Anyone have any thoughts?

OPI Stay the Night

When I heard OPI and Mariah Carey had teamed up to do a collection I was waaaay too excited. The queen of pink and glitter and too-much-muchness was getting a nail collection? Yes, please!

Unfortunately, the regular colours did not catch my eye, but this new 'Liquid Sand' thing that OPI is releasing did. It is essentially a matte glitter, but matte to the MAX. I like these a lot.

For your consideration: Stay the Night. Black jelly-like base with black and pink glitter. This is three coats, but you can get away with two.

The pink really pokes through. And it mixes really well with the black. I approve, OPI. I approve.

A England She Walks in Beauty

You know, I don't think I've had a bad A England polish. The colours are always gorgeous, the formulas perfect... they are really giving the big brands a run for their money!

So then today I have "She Walks in Beauty" from their Heavenly Quotes collection (which is being released piece by piece instead of all at once). This colour is so romantic and so ethereal I almost don't believe it. The base is a soft shimmery gold, with gold and dusty-rose glitter accents. I love it. I just love it so much. Look at some pictures before I start drooling on you:

IT'S SO PRETTY.

Nail Polish Party

For New Year's Eve Eve I had some friends over so they could use my collection and get some purrrrdy nails for their respective parties. It was obviously a resounding success! So I give you:

How to Have a Nail Polish Party

Step 1: Mimosas: This part is key. Slightly tipsy friends are more much more agreeable to fancy colours and designs and dots and such wonderful things.

Step 2: More mimosas: "Oh ladiesh, thish purple would loook amaaaaazing on you." *Hic* Also, snacks. Snacks are key. Might I suggest rainbow marble mini-cupcakes?

Step 3: Time for serious business.Direct them to your fancy Polish Station (it's extra official because you had your nephew make a sign).

Put out your tools and swatches like a catalogue, and take orders!

Step 4: Let them do their own base coat colours. You're no manicurist.

Step 4b: Clean up their base coats because they are not manicurists, either.

Step 5: "You're giving me carte blanche? OBVIOUSLY STRIPES ARE THE ANSWER!"

Step 6:"Dots. Dots are the answer for you."

Step 7: Top coats for everyone!

Step 8: Take pictures for posterity's (and blog's) sake.

Step 9: ?????

Step 10: Profit!

Congratulations! Follow up the painting with hilarious select episodes of Community.

Resounding success!
